At Milan Design Week 2023, the Swiss carpet manufacturer Ruckstuhl presented the rug collection Fellow by Stephan Hürlemann and its innovative framework Fellow Project. The Fellows are testing a new operating system that shortens delivery routes, extends the longevity of rugs and simplifies processes aimed at a more conscious use of products. The exhibition “Fellow - Metamorphosis of a Rug“ was conceptualised by Stephan Hürlemann and featured in the gallery “Assab one“.
The scenography was subtly integrated in the room of the previous printing works with its old muntin windows and worn clinker floor. At different locations visitors could explore the high-quality pure wool rugs and the new ideas for improving their eco-balance. For example, colourful patterns on the wall offered the opportunity to playfully get to know the design principle Stephan Hürlemann used to create the unique rugs. Via QR codes on the rugs’ labels visitors could learn more about the individual history of each of the Fellows on display.
All over the room, the rhythmic sound of the tufting robot met the ear, which in a video on the screen produced each of the five exhibition carpets in hours of work. Stools in the 14 Fellows colours distributed among the exhibits invited visitors to linger.
