Hannes Wettstein (1958 – 2008), 2011

Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta), Switzerland

The designer Hannes Wettstein, who died in 2008, was recognised as one of the most important and innovative designers of our time. In 2011 his most important works were presented for the first time in an exhibition, orchestrated by Stephan Hürlemann and his team and presented by the gta in the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. In the middle of the central hall hundreds of hand-drawn sketches tumble down an enormous projection screen, drawing the visitor into the exciting world of Wettstein’s designs. The furniture products and interior architecture projects exhibited – many of which are design classics - prove the fact that his search for the archetypal was continually successful.
