What does a modern working environment for lawyers look like? And how can we adapt old building fabric to new requirements with the least intervention possible? Such questions were addressed by Stephan Hürlemann and his architectural team after the law firm Kellerhals Carrad commissioned them in 2021 to redesign the new rented space at the firm's headquarters at Zurich Bellevue and turn it into a perfect environment for the firm's Startup Desk Team.
After a gentle renovation of the rooms’ existing envelope, an inspiring Office-Home was created on 145 m2. A range of different workplaces, such as a standing table designed by Stephan Hürlemann, a work sofa, standard workstations or a long worktop by the window, provide space for exchange, meetings and focused work. Three micro-offices set up in the room provide an ideal setting for confidential telephone calls, video calls and deeply focused work. The flexible and sound-insulated boxes enliven the space around them with pinboards and shelves. A cosy atmosphere is created by a rough-sawn wooden floor, an open plan kitchen and high-pile rugs.
