Together with the Swiss company MOX, Stephan Hürlemann has developed a slim, cylindrical coat rack and umbrella stand. "When planning corporate offices, my team kept looking for free-standing coat racks for small meeting rooms. We were unable to find a product on the market that did everything we wanted, so I finally launched a design myself", says the architect and designer.
The result are the OOLO* coat rack and the OOL* umbrella stand. Made of three (or two) metal rings with identical radius, the design can be read as a tube with interruptions. It consists of three (or two) rings with identical diameter, which are connected by a pole in the centre. The dimensions of the bottom ring ensure that folding umbrellas do not disappear into the stand, the middle ring provides support for standard umbrellas and the top ring prevents hangers from sliding off. Hürlemann chose the dimensions of the product so that the column has the smallest possible diameter while standing freely despite its light weight.
The clear and consistent design is enlivened by moveable metal hooks for bicycle helmets, bags, keys, etc. They can be placed freely on all three rings and add little touches of colour.
*The design names itself: three rings and a pole for OOLO, two rings and a pole for OOL.
